US  COVID-19 Statistics (BNN news and New York Time):

。A massive funding package to combat the impact of coronavirus did not get enough votes in a key Senate procedural vote Sunday evening. The stalemate came hours after Democratic leaders warned that the bill was not to their liking. And stock futures cratered as the two parties failed to agree on the terms of the package. ---CNBC

。Warnings about damage to the economy from the coronavirus grew more dire as cities from New York to Los Angeles all but shut down and cases rose rapidly. Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis President James Bullard said U.S. unemployment may hit 30% in the second quarter, with GDP falling by 50%. That exceeds the warning from Goldman Sachs Group last week of a 24% contraction. Morgan Stanley said Sunday the contraction could be 30%.---Bloomberg

。COVID-19 has now spread across Asia to the Middle East to Europe, and now to the Americas. "This is kind of a rolling natural disaster," said Ethan Harris, head of global economic research at Bank of America. "In terms of the impact on global production, the shutdown outside of China will likely become bigger than the impact from China."Harris warned that the shock to global supply chains is deep and broad and could easily last through the next quarter. He estimates that factory shutdowns in many regions could last until May.  ---ZeroHedge

。At least 311,988 people have tested positive for the virus worldwide as of Sunday at 7:43 am ET, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. The virus has killed at least 13,407 people around the world. The number of cases in the U.S. has surged to at least 26,747, making it one of the worst hit countries in the world. Only China, Italy and Spain are harder hit than the U.S. Italy saw its worst day so far, with 793 confirmed deaths and 6,557 confirmed cases, according to the Associated Press. The country has a total of 53,578 cases and at least 4,825 deaths, the most fatalities of any country.  Spain, meanwhile, lost more than 300 people to the virus in one day, bringing its death toll to at least 1,375. The total number of confirmed cases in the country now stands at 25,374. ---CNBC

。Italy banned any movement inside the country in its latest attempt to contain the coronavirus outbreak and reported another 651 fatalities on Sunday. The total number of people killed by the disease reached 5,476, the highest globally, Angelo Borrelli, the head of the civil protection agency, said at a press conference after the government shuttered almost all industrial production for two weeks and banned any movement within the country. The number of known cases jumped to 59,138 leaving Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte’s government struggling to isolate those potentially carrying the infection and hospitals battling to cope with a shortage of intensive care beds and with health-care workers dying. ---Bloomberg

。Germany on Sunday barred groups of more than two people from gathering, except for families, as Chancellor Angela Merkel said she herself was going into isolation because her doctor had tested positive for the coronavirus. Ms. Merkel said the new social-distancing rules, which will be in place for at least two weeks, were among the strictest by any country on movement outside the home.

。Huge jumps in COVID-19 deaths and cases have been reported in the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, and France this weekend. Hospital systems in many of these countries are running out of supplies, staff, hospital beds, and ICU-level treatments. The shortage of protective gear for medical staff at many European hospitals has forced some to tape trash bags to their bodies as makeshift biohazard suits. To sum up, the evolution of the virus crisis is that medical gear shortages could lead to labor shortages at hospitals across Europe because medical staff aren't adequately protected against the virus. Europe has become the new China. And in the weeks ahead, parts of the US could transform into Italy. ---ZeroHedge
