The Producer Price Index dipped 0.5% in October, compared with the 0.1% increase expected and the 0.4% rise in September (revised from +0.5%). The month-over-month decline marks the largest decrease in final demand prices since April 2020. On a year-over-year basis, the PPI rose 1.3%, significantly less than the 2.0% increase expected and the 2.2% Y/Y increase in September. Core PPI, which excludes food and energy, was unchanged M/M vs. +0.3% expected and +0.2% prior (revised from +0.3%). Treasury ETF TLT is down 1.36% as 10 year yield rises to 4.537%.

October retail sales inched down 0.1% M/M to $705.0B, compared with the 0.3% decrease expected and decelerating from the 0.9% increase in September (revised from +0.7%). Core retail sales, meantime, ticked up 0.1%, topping the -0.2% consensus and slowing from +0.8% in the prior month (revised from +0.6%). Retail sales rose 2.5% year-over-year in October and were down 0.1% on a month-over-month comparison. 

Target (TGT) posted higher than expected income in the third quarter and delivered a forecast for its current three month period that was largely above Wall Street expectations, as the big box retailer moved to clear ou inventories and corral costs. TGT is up 17%.  TJX Companies (TJX) slipped 3.22% despite posting a Q3 earnings topper. The retailer reporting comparable sales of 6% in Q3 to top the consensus expectation of +4.5%, with customer traffic up across all divisions. However, holiday quarter guidance disappoints. 

After retracing 2 days in a row from a little over $38000, Bitcoin found support at breakout point $35000 and is now trading at $36242, up $936 from yesterdy. Bit coin trend is still up waiting for spot Bitcoin ETFs approval to be announced. Most people expected approval will come on January while Kevin O'Leary warns spot Bitcoin ETF approval could be 18 months away (this was the reason for Bitcoin sell off for yesterday).

Major U.S. stock market indexes rose an average of 0.4%. However, 4 out of 7 mega tech stocks fell, with the Tech Nasdaq 100 ETF QQQ still trading below its July high of 387.42 points. It is currently trading at 387.21. After surging nearly 13% in 2 1/2 weeks, tech stocks are already showing some signs of weakness and may need to correct before moving forward. QQQ support is 380 and resistance is 388. U.S. stocks not likely to rise much today and should be wary of starting to fall, dragged down by rising interest rates and weaker mega technology stocks.

JP Morgan strategist Marki Kolanovic is telling clients to sell bonds and stocks and move into commodities, specifically oil. " Restrictive monetary policy is likely to remain in place for some time, equity valuations are rich, and consumers are likely to begin to retrench given a fading liquidity buffer, high rates across a range of consumer loan products, tightening lending standards, and rising delinquencies," the strategist commented. "This is likely to drive demand destruction, and weakening pricing power and margins for corporates in the coming quarters, and suggests that consensus expectations that look for 12% EPS growth next year appear overly optimistic."

The Consumer Price Index indicated zero inflation M/M in October, less than the 0.1% increase expected and the 0.4% rise in September. The month's print was mainly due to falling gasoline prices. On a Y/Y basis, the October CPI climbed 3.2%, compared with the +3.3% expected and +3.7% prior. The Treasury Bond ETF #TLT surged 2.31%, while the 10-year Treasury Bond Return (#TNX) fell sharply to 4.453%.

Dow component Home Depot (#HD) has reported a smaller than expected decline in third quarter comparable sales, a shallower fall than Bloomber consensus forecasts for 3.31% decrease, Net earnings fell by 12.2% versus the corresponding period las year to $3.81billion. Company gives a cautious outlook, saying it now sees its fiscal 2023 sales and comaprable sales slipping by 3% to 4% on an annualized basis, narrowing its prior range of 2% to 5%. However, HD is up 6.5.

Major market indexes posted sharp gains today, with the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq up 1.47%, 1.91% and 2.27% respectively. This is one of the biggest increase of the year. The Nasdaq is the biggest gainer, rising 12.3% over the past 2.5 weeks. It has gone up too fast and too fast. Last friday, Moody lowered its outlook on the US credit rating to "Negative" from "Stable", citing large fiscal deficits and a decline in debt affordability. Treasury ETF TLT is down 0.88% as 10 year yield rising to 4.674%.

Investors will focus on a slew of economic data this week as well as speeches from Fed officials for signs on trajectory of interest rates amid growing expectations that is done hiking borrowing costs. CPI on Tuesday is expected to show headline consumer prices eased to 3.3% in October from 3.7% in September. This may help the stock market. 

Another event that might affect the stock market is U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet Wednesday in San Francisco, U.S. officials do not expect any major breakthroughs that could dramatically improve the relationship. Instead, White House officials say one of their main summit goals is simply to ensure that both sides continue talking, to reduce the chances that U.S.-China tensions spiral into conflict. 

Dow component Boeing (#BA) shares are trading higher by around 5% after it anounced winning contracts from several Middle Eastern airlines during the Dubai Airshow. 

Technically, major market indexes were up 9 days in the last 10, some profitaking is likely but downside could be limited. The Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq have all broke above their 4 month downtrend lines and have resumed their uptrends. The key levels to watch are Dow 34000, S&P 500 4335 and Nasdaq 13395. If these levels hold, the market trend will still be up.

The Treasury ETF #TLT +0.71% rebounded today after falling sharply yesterday on hawkish comments from Fed Chairman Powell.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. ( #TSM +5.5% ) shares are trading higher today after the company reported revenue growth of 34.8% sequentially in October. A strong U.S. dollar and new product launches from Apple ( #AAPL +1.4% ) helped drive growth, Digitimes reported. Strength in TSM and AAPL drove gains in tech stocks this morning.

#Bitcoin rose another 2.25% today to $37,838 amid speculation that a Bitcoin ETF may soon be allowed to trade. The trend of Bitcoin is bullish, with the next target being $40,000 to $45,000.

A rebound in TLT and gains in large-cap tech stocks are pushing major market indexes higher. The average gain is about 0.65%. The key #SPX level to watch is 4402. The market may move higher if this level is broken upwards, which is currently at 4372. The key 10-year Treasury yield #TNX level to watch is 4.7%, and if it breaks above that level, stocks could fall again, which is now 4.606%.

Nvidia (#NVDA) shares rose 2.31% on reports that the company plans to release three new chips to China. HSBC initiated coverage on Tesla ( #TSLA ) with a sell rating, estimating downside risk at 35%. Tesla shares fell 3.22%. Dow component Disney ( #DIS ) reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter earnings as its direct-to-consumer business slashed losses. DIS rose 6.3%. ARM (#ARM) beat expectations with results and forecasts, but shares fell 6.2% as the company noted "uncertainty about the exact timing of certain transactions and the potential for revenue recognition from future agreements to change." MGM Resorts (#MGM)'s third-quarter revenue and profit exceeded expectations, but its stock price fell 1.14%.

Bitcoin (#BTC) broke through the $36,000 resistance level, rising around $2,000 overnight to an 18-month high of $37,439. The near-term upward momentum could take it towards the $45,000 area. Bitcoin miners were all up significantly: RIOT +13%, MARA +18%, and BTBT +12%.

After eight trading days of gains, major U.S. stock indexes finally slowed down since yesterday. They rose first and then turned back down today. Elsewhere, after eight consecutive days of gains, the Treasury ETF #TLT reversed course and fell 1.15% today, with the 10-year Treasury yield back up to 4.553%. The recent average rise of stock indexes of 7% and the rebound in Treasury yields may serve as excuse for the stock market to pause and start a downward correction.

Thousands of Palestinians walked for hours looking for a way out of the besieged northern Gaza Strip. The accelerating exodus from northern Gaza has alarmed the United Nations and some Western officials, who have urged Israel to end demands for people to leave the area, calling it an act of forced displacement.

Treasury Trust #TLT is up 1.03% this morning. It has risen in five of the past six trading days. The 10-year Treasury yield has fallen to 4.536% from 5% last week. Results from today's $40 billion 10-year Treasury auction will be released at 1:00 PM ET. Situation may change based on auction results.

eBay ( #EBAY ) provided fourth-quarter guidance that missed analysts' expectations. Shares fell 4.45%. Rivian (#RIVN) shares fell 1.49% after the electric car company reported third-quarter results and raised its annual production target. Biogen (#BIIB) fell 4.19% after reporting third-quarter results that beat analysts' expectations. (#TTWO) shares soared 6.74% after Bloomberg News reported that Rockstar Games, a subsidiary of video game publisher Take Two Interactive, is preparing to launch the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI game as early as this week. Robinhood ( #HOOD ) shares fell more than 14% after reporting mixed third-quarter financial results and issuing higher guidance.

A sharp drop in US Treasury yields and strength in big tech stocks like #NVDA , #MSFT and #AAPL helped stabilize US stocks today. Technically,  major market indexes are facing resistance at their downtrend lines. After eight consecutive sessions of gains and facing resistance, U.S. stock indexes will need very good news to break above their resistances. A market downside correction is likely.

JP Morgan strategists led by Mislav Matejka says this stock market rally is not sustainable.
