Today's US Stock Market 11/30/2023

The Federal Reserve's preferred inflation measure rose at slower rate at 3% on an annual basis in October compared to the prior month, in the latest sign that the central bank's long-standing campaign of interest rate hikes may be working to corral price growth. Initial jobless claims for the week ended Nov. 25 rose by 7K to 218K, compared with the 219K expected and 211K prior (revised from 209K). Howevr, TLT is down 0.86% as 10 year yield back up to 4.344%.

Dow component Sales Force (CRM) surged 7.5% after annual guidance. UAW push to organize Tesla (TSLA) and non-union auto sector, ecompass companies such as Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Rivian, Nissan, BMW and Mecedes-Benz . TSLA is down 1.3%. 

Helped by strong CRM, Dow is up nearly 0.8% while weaker "Magnificient 7" stocks pull Nasdaq down 0.53% while the S&P 500 down 0.07%. Small cap index Russell 2000 is up 0.39%. Looks like investors are taking profits on tech stocks and rotate into under value sectors.

Dow is now trading above its July high of 35679, its next level of resistance is all time high at 36952. S&P500 and Nasdaq are still below their July highs at 4607 and 14446 respectively. US stock market trend is up but needs time to digest recent strong gains and break through their resistance before going higher.

Today's US Stock Market 11/29/2023

US GDP growth advances 5.2% in Q3, surpassing prior estimate of 4.9% and stronger than the 2.1% rise in Q2. The increase reflects an upturn inconsumer spending, private inventory investment, export, state and local government spending, federal government spending, residential fixed investment, and nonresidential fixed investment. PCE price index +2.85 VS 2.9% estimate, Core PCE price index +2.3% Vs 2.4% estimate. US Treasruries rally on the news with TLT up 0.92% and 10 Year yield drops to 4.28%.

Standard Chartered has reaffirmed its oulook for Bitcoin's (BTC) price to peak by/before the endo of 2024. They "think a number of spot ETFs will now be approved in Q1 of 2024 for both BTC and ETH, paving the way for institutional investment ." I believe BTC is going to start a rally to $50000 near term。

Major market indexes rallied after open on lower than expeced PCE price index. They have pulled back significantly after getting close to their July highs. These highs are Dow 35679, S&P 500 4607 and Nasdaq 14446. After rallying big in the past month and near resistances , the indexes need rest before able to breakout these highs. Fear gauge VIX is trading at its low indicating too much investor complacency and may ready to reverse. It would be reasonable for the stock indexes to pull back near term.

Today's US Stock Market 11/22/2023

US Treasuries are trading flat today, with TLT up just 0.04% and the 10-year Treasury yield (TNX) inching up to 4.430%, bouncing off support at 4.350%. Crude oil prices fell sharply by 3.23% to $74.58 per barrel after OPEC postponed its meeting. Crude oil's decline continues.

Despite unusually high expectations, Wall Street was impressed by the semiconductor giant Nvidia's (NVDA) strong third-quarter earnings and better-than-expected guidance. However, the company said it expected sales in China to fall "significantly" due to recent export restrictions imposed by the Biden administration. Nvidia added that this decline will be offset by growth in other regions. Analysts at Bank of America, Rosenblatt and Wells Fargo have price targets on NVDA of $700, $1,100 and $675, respectively. With all these positives, NVDA is currently down 3.32% at $482.87 on profit-taking however.

NVDA's strong earnings helped the overall market, although now NVDA itself is falling. Major market indexes rose an average of 0.5%. The Russell 2000 small-cap index rose 0.80%, the largest gainer. U.S. stocks remain bullish on better-than-expected earnings and guidance from NVDA, coupled with strong Thanksgiving seasonal strength in stocks.

The stock market will be closed for Thanksgiving tomorrow.

Fed meeting minutes is to be reported at 11 AM PT today. Treasury ETF TLT is up slightly and 10 year Treasury yield is down slightly.

According to Goldman Sachs, elevated concentration and the strong performance of the "Magnificent 7" have supported hedge fund returns this year but lifted crowding to all time high.

Today's market focus is Nvidea's earnings. Nvidea (NVDA) is to report earnings after market close today. Expectations are high for the report. Its earnings beat record has been priestine, it has beaten estimates in 19 of the last 20 quarters. Last week, Oppenheimer, SIG and Bank of America all raised their NVDA price targets to 650, 625 and 575 respectively. The year today gain for NVDA is 222%!

History tells us that stock market always goes up around Thanksgiving week. I don't remember the market being down1 day before Thanksgiving with my over 40 years watching the market, although it is down this morning. There is no negatice news affecting the market today except investors nerverousness before NVDA earnings. Let's see how things go by the end of today and what happen after market close when NVDA reports its earnings.

Treasury Bond ETF TLT, -0.23% , with the 10-year Treasury yield rising slightly to 4.471%.

Analysts at Deutsche Bank on Monday upgraded their investment rating on Boeing Co. ( BA +3.69% ) to "buy" from "hold" previously. They said the aerospace and defense giant is poised to improve cash flow as aircraft deliveries increase. Deutsche Bank raised its price target on Boeing (BA) to $270 pr share from $204 per share. Microsoft (#MSFT +1.25% ) hires former Open AI CEO Sam Altman.

Expectations are very high for Nvidia's (NVDA +1%) earnings report on Tuesday. One reason for optimism: NVDA has beaten estimates in 19 of the last 20 quarters, according to FactSet. Tech giants and startups alike are spending billions of dollars developing artificial intelligence technology. Because NVDA's semiconductors are at the heart of such efforts, it has been a major beneficiary.

Analysts say Bitcoin (BTC) could approach the $50,000 level “this month or next” as investors await ETF approval. The election of Javier Mire as Argentina's president also helped. Milei supports Bitcoin and has openly criticized the country’s central bank. Call options between $30,000 and $50,000 "have the highest open interest in November and December," said analyst Rachel Lin, CEO of SynFutues.

Technically, major markets are breaking above recent highs and stocks continue to rise. From a seasonal perspective, stocks typically rise during Thanksgiving. Additionally, bullish expectations for NVDA's earnings and six of the seven stocks in the "Vida 7" rising this morning also helped.
