Why The Market Go Down Today

Trump refuses to negotiate for the 2nd pandemic economic stimulus plan until after the election and Congress anti-trust committee report which recommends legislative actions to Congress that would result in the breakup of Amazon, Facebook and the other tech behemoths drove US market indexes reversing morning gain and down sharply at the close. The stop of negotiation on the 2nd stimulus plan is the big surprise as the market has been expecting it to happen and has been rallying to reflect it.

1. Trump tweets:

"Nancy Pelosi is asking for $2.4 Trillion Dollars to bailout poorly run, high crime, Democrat States, money that is in no way related to COVID-19. We made a very generous offer of $1.6 Trillion Dollars and, as usual, she is not negotiating in good faith. I am rejecting their..."

"I have instructed my representatives to stop negotiating until after the election when, immediately after I win, we will pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans and Small Business. I have asked..."

"@senatemajldr Mitch McConnell not to delay, but to instead focus full time on approving my outstanding nominee to the United States Supreme Court, Amy Coney Barrett. Our Economy is doing very well. The Stock Market is at record levels, JOBS and unemployment. .."

"...also coming back in record numbers. We are leading the World in Economic Recovery, and THE BEST IS YET TO COME!"

2. The 449-page congress report suggests breaking apart tech companies in an effort to separate businesses so they do not benefit each other and potentially harm competition, as well as other potential measures.  The congress report takes issue with tech companies owning businesses where they are both the owners of a platform, and a competitor on said platform. The Democratic report found that the four tech companies enjoy monopoly power in the following areas:Apple: distribution of software apps on iOS devices, Amazon: most third-party sellers and many suppliers, Facebook: online advertising and social networking, Google: online search.
