Weekend news round up on Omicron Variant development:
。There are now 62254 confirmed Omicron Variant cases globally as of Sunday. There were only 99 three weeks ago. ---Newsnodes
。The Netherlands has announced plans for a month-long lockdown, it appears another wave of (government-funded) lockdowns are coming in Europe, especially since Germany's new Chancellor Olaf Scholz has suggested he would be open to more extreme measures, and Dutch PM Mark Rutte has ordered the shutdowns to begin Sunday Meanwhile, the Labour Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, warned during an interview on Sunday that more restrictions, including lockdowns, are "inevitable". ---ZeroHedge
。There is currently no evidence that the new Covid-19 omicron variant is any less severe than the delta variant, according to the early findings of a study by the U.K.’s Imperial College London. The study used the data from the U.K. Health Security Agency and the U.K.’s health service for all PCR-confirmed Covid cases in England between Nov. 29 and Dec. 11. ---CNBC
。With a doubling time of two to three days, the Omicron variant is “going to take over,” and the US needs to use all the tools at its disposal— from vaccination to testing and masking — to battle a tough winter, Dr. Anthony Fauci told CNN on Sunday.“It is going to be a tough few weeks to months as we get deeper into the winter,” he said, with significant strain on hospital systems, especially in places with low vaccination rates. ---CNN
"Build Back Better" (BBB) Social Engineering Expenditure Bill is likely to fail:
。A decisive "no" from Senator Joe Manchin on President Biden's Build Back Better (BBB) social engineering spendfest has sparked anger from The White House and economic outlook cuts from Wall Street. While BBB enactment had already looked like a close call, in light of Manchin's comments Goldman has removed the assumption that BBB will become law from its forecast. In light of their changed fiscal assumptions, Goldman lowers their real GDP forecast for 2022: 2% in Q1 (vs. 3% prior), 3% in Q2 (vs. 3.5% prior), and 2.75% in Q3 (vs. 3% prior). --- ZeroHedge
Due to exponential Omicron spread and the likelihood of BBB not passing, it doesn't look likely that the stock market can bounce. It is not going to last long even if it bounces. Lock downs and BBB not passing will dim the outlook of global economic growth. High inflation plus Central Bank tightenings are going to make things worse. Major market indexes and major tech stocks are now all in short term down trends.
Bitcoin will likely test December low at around 42000 and may even 40000 since it still tracks the direction of the stock market.
---Newsnodes
---ZeroHedge
---ZeroHedge
