It Is A Tradable Few Days For Profits 可交易赚钱的几天

 The tech heavy Nasdaq Composite had a long tail reversal 2 days ago stopping the month long downside slide. Today, Nasdaq gapped up open due to strong earnings from MSFT and TXN and provides further upside momentum. Technically, this Nasdaq bounce may last 2 to 3 days as it goes up to challenge resistances at 14250 and 14500. Federal Reserve is to announce monetary policy today at 11AM Pacific Time. Since market has reacted negatively due to rate hike expectation, today's announcement is not likely to add more negativity and it may add positivity if commentary from the fed is less hawkish. Even though Nasdaq is still on a downtrend if it is not able to recover above 200 day moving average level 14733, but it is a tradable bottom for profit for the next few days.

Expect A Bounce, Then Sell Off Again.期待反弹，然后再次抛售

 Last week's sell off drove the Nasdaq Composite to go below my downside target of 14000 estimated on my January 14 blog (https://tradeideablog.blogspot.com/2022/01/how-low-can-us-stock-market-go.html), and is trading around 13369 now. The Nasdaq is now down 17.5% from its all time high of 16212 level. The Nasdaq trend is definitely down as it has dropped below it's 20,50,100 and 200 day moving averages. However, the CCI indicator is at -207 (a very oversold level)  this indicator is pointing to  a likely near term bounce.  Downtrend will likely return after a brief bounce. A Weekly chart with Fibonacci lines on it points to next down side levels, 38.2% retracement level at 12522 and 50% retracement level at 11382. These are retracements for the 9581 point 144.5% gain from 2020 march low to all time high. These level represent a 23% and 30% down from all time high. So expect a strong bounce and then sell off again towards next retracement levels.

The national banking regulator has conditionally approved the acquisition of Sacramento-based Golden Pacific Bank by fintech giant SoFi Technologies Inc. (SOFI $13.71). Obtaining a banking license would lead to SoFi's growth and profitability potential far greater than as a non-bank fintech. SoFi represents a new generation of banks that can operate as a traditional bank and also play a role in the growing fintech industry. 

SOFI (13.71) jumped 13.68% on the good news on 5.82 times average volume today. Before today, SOFI had dropped 57.5% from its all time high of $28.26 to $12.02. SOFI has attracted a total of 10 analyst reviews recently, including 7 Buys and 3 Holds and have an average price target of $21.40. 

Analysts estimated earnings growth for next year is 75% and average 47% a year for the next 5 years. There are 10% shorts on the stock and short squeeze is likely driven by the upside momentum of SOFI. 

After market close today, two traders from CNBC Fast Money rated SOFI "screaming" buy. Following Fast Money, SOFI's CEO was then interviewed by James Kramer in Mad Money and is very bullish on the company's future. 

Technically, there is a Morning Star reversal up pattern on the daily chart and a Bullish Engulfing pattern on the weekly chart. Immediate upside price target for SOFI is between 16.5 to 17.3 where the 50, 100 and 200 day moving averages lie. After getting through this area, the next target is $20.

How Low Can The US Stock Market Go 美股会跌到哪里

Coming into today's trading, followings are some of the statistic to consider:

From their all time highs: 

For the indexes: Russell 2000 -12.2%,Nasdaq -9.9%, S&P 500 -3.3%, Dow -2.3%. 

For the 7 mega tech stocks : NVDA -23% (PEG 2.08), TSLA -16.8% (PEG 4.22), FB- 15% (1.09), AMZN -14.5%(1.75), MSFT -12.9%(2.06), GOOG -8.5%(1.28), AAPL -6% (PEG 1.96). 

From the above information, I see both the Dow and S&P 500 still need to catch up with the downside since they only down 2.3% and 3.3% respectively Vs Russell 2000 and Nasdaq's down 12.2% and 9,9% respectively. The downside for both the Dow and S&P 500 are far from being over and they will likely trying to catch up with the downside of both the Russell 2000 and Nasdaq Composite. 

As for the mega tech stocks, high PEG is their problem. PEGs for  TSLA, NVDA, MSFT, AAPL and AMZN are still too high since PEG equal to 1 is the fair value. Only FB and GOOG are much closer to their fair value base on PEG measure. So more down side is likely for 5 out of the 7 mega tech stocks mentioned above.

Sure enough, both the Dow and S&P 500 are leading the US market down today trying to catch up with the Nasdaq Composite. Followings are reasonable downside projections for the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite:

Stock Market Trend Is Down, Sell On Rallies 股市趋势下跌，逢高卖出

This morning, the Nasdaq fell to near its November and December lows of 14931 and14860 and rebounded , this kind of reaction is understandable. After a sharp drop in the last 2 days, even if it rebounds 50% of its recent losses is still consider normal.  However, the Nasdaq trend is now down as it is now below its 20,50 and 100 day moving averages, strategy for now is to sell on rallies. This morning's rebound is a weak rebound, and it won't be a surprise if the Nasdaq retests the bottom at 14860 again. 

During  the past two years of  virus pandemic, U.S. stocks have repeatedly setting new highs and have pushed  many stocks to  overvaluation is the market's basic problem. And now, the odds of the Fed raising interest rates in March has jumped to 70%, it is definitely a negative for stocks. In addition, the infection of the Omicron virus in the United States is accelerating, and China is closing its cities and ports, these will likely place drag to the global economy. 

Besides of their over-valuation, most mega tech stock charts also look terrible and their trends are down.What makes matter worse is investors will likely trim their holdings on these stocks and rotate into value stocks.  It is likely that tech stocks will continue to correct. The Nasdaq level to pay attention to is 14,860, if it falls below, the next down side target will be the 200-day moving average at 14,672. Nasdaq resistance is the 100 day moving average level at 15262.

In 2021, the tech heavy Nasdaq 100 index was up 27% during 2021. This big gain stopped investors from taking profit due to fear of paying capital gain tax in the new year supported tech stocks. On top of this Institutions ganged up to drive stock higher near end of year in purpose so that they can report better yearly result was another factor causing 2021's year end rally. Then tech stocks got lucky yesterday (the first trading day of 2022), TSLA's strong vehicle delivery numbers drove tech stock prices even higher. The new year profit taking on tech stocks got delayed by one day as heavy selling on them happened today. The decline in technology stocks will likely due to overvaluation. Overvalued stocks will eventually fall back sharply. Obvious examples are some popular stocks from 2020 to 2021, such as PTON, TDOC, ZM, PLTR and DOCU. They have fallen by 81%, 71%, 71%, 60% and 58% respectively from their highs. Although many investors have no experience in a bear market, they should learn from the performances of the stocks listed above and be fearful. Even though mega tech stocks should not drop as much as those stocks. Tech stock sell off will likely continue due the following factors:

1. The Nasdaq 100 Index (NDX) has formed a bearish engulfing chart pattern today as today's loss is more than yesterday's gain. This reversal pattern should lead to more weakness. It may go down to previous low at 15508 initially. If the situation is bad, it may go down to challenge the 14869 level of the 200-day moving average.

2. PEG for mega tech stocks are uncomfortably high (TSLA 5.33, NVDA 2.30, MSFT 2.29, AAPL 2.04, AMZN 1.82) as fair value for PEG is 1 and some popular stocks can command 1.3 during normal time. These stocks can drop quite a bit if valuations are readjusted back to normal.

3. The $3 trillion capitalization price for AAPL is at around $182 will likely be the top for the near term and serves as major psychological resistance. A 2.04 PEG ratio is not a good bargain as the reasonable ratio is 1 to 1.5. 

4. Price Charts for AMZN, GOOG, FB, MSFT, NVDA and NFLX are looking ugly and are on downtrends.

5. TSLA's crazy 5.33 PEG ratio is not likely to be sustainable as people are trading it with emotion not fundamental. Emotion is mood, it can change quickly. 

6. Inflation is at 40 year high and 3 rate hikes by the federal reserve is expected this year. 10 year Treasury yield is now at 1.668% and looks ready to break November 2021 high of 1.69%. Investors will likely rotate from growth stocks to value stocks besides new year profit taking on last years high return stocks. 

7. People are expecting the Omicron variant will not have too much impact on global economy, but this is still an unknown in reality as US infections are accelerating and China is locking down cities and closing ports.
