Major US stock indexes rebound strongly at the open after dropping 9 out of the past 11 days. It is an oversold bounce. However, no trade war issues have been resolved and on top of this Apple, Amazon, Google and Facebook are to be investigated by FTC and DOJ. Amazon, Facebook and Google are still weak this morning after yesterday's big drop and they likely will continue to be a drag for the market. It is tough for the market bounce to go far with intensifying trade war, big companies are being investigated and deteriorating technicals and fundamentals. Strategy is sell on rallies. Near term resistance for the S&P 500 is its 200 day moving average 2775 then 2800.

。The U.S. government is gearing up to investigate whether Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google misuse their massive market power, sources told Reuters on Monday, setting up what could be an unprecedented, wide-ranging probe of some of the world’s largest companies. The Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice, which enforce antitrust laws in the United States, have divided oversight over the four companies, two sources said, with Amazon and Facebook under the watch of the FTC, and Apple and Google under the Justice Department. ---Reuters

。"Markets "seem to be seeing something that WE'RE not seeing as quickly," says Chicago Fed President Charles Evans, appearing on CNBC. "We need to pay attention to that," he adds.Indeed. Short-term rate futures markets are pricing in about a 90% chance of a rate cut in September. With his remarks, Evans joins fellow central banker Jim Bullard, who yesterday suggested a rate cut soon might be appropriate. Both Evans and Bullard lean dovish, but later this morning we'll get to hear from Fed Chairman Jay Powell. ---Seeking Alpha

。Billionaire Stan Druckenmiller, who said he could see the Fed funds rate going to zero in the next 18 months if the economy softens, and that he recently piled into Treasuries as the U.S. trade war with China escalated. "When the Trump tweet went out, I went from 93% invested to net flat, and bought a bunch of Treasuries," Druckenmiller said Monday evening quoted by Bloomberg, referring to the May 5 tweet from Trump which threatened an increase in tariffs on China and which sparked the most vicious bout of trade-war related selling yet. Explaining his decision, Druck said that it's “not because I’m trying to make money, I just don’t want to play in this environment."  ---Zero Hedge

。Amazon.com, Facebook — Loop Capital raised its price target on Amazon shares to $2,380 from $2,200 while maintaining a “buy” rating, and reiterated its “buy” rating on Facebook while maintaining a $200 price target. Both stocks were under pressure yesterday on the increased likelihood of federal probes into their business practices. Fellow FANG stock Netflix was upgraded to “buy” from “hold” at Loop, which raised the price target to $425, with the firm citing an “unstoppable lead” in subscription video streaming. ---CNBC

---Zero Hedge
