。China has confirmed that Vice Premier Liu He will visit the U.S. on May 9-10 ahead of a Friday deadline President Trump has set for an increase in tariffs, after Washington accused Beijing of "reneging" on its trade promises.---Seeking Alpha

。President Trump threatened to raise tariffs from 10% to 25% on billions of dollars in Chinese goods, but he said he might also put new tariffs on another $325 billion in products that could include many consumer goods. The administration is preparing for higher tariffs on $200 billion in goods, but analysts say if Trump follows through with the other products, U.S. consumers will be the ones to pick up the tab on apparel, shoes, toys and electronics.  ation officials said Monday they were preparing to move forward on raising the tariffs on $200 billion in goods Friday to 25% from 10%. Wall Street still doesn’t believe it. Goldman Sachs economists said the chances of the White House putting tariffs on the remaining $325 billion are just 1 in 10. ---CNBC

。Brexit is back on the agenda. Talks between Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservative Party and the main opposition Labour Party are set to come to a head today as the leaders meet to sign off on a deal that will allow a way forward for the long-stalled process. Should the negotiations fail, the U.K. could face another referendum or a snap election. Adding some extra jeopardy to the mix for May is the chance that she could soon be facing a leadership challenge from inside her own party. ---Bloomberg

。The European Commission cut its growth forecasts for the euro area and slashed its projection for Germany as it warned that escalating trade tensions threaten to make the outlook even worse. Most of the downgrades were less severe than in the previous report in February, apart from Germany, where the 2019 prediction was slashed to just 0.5 percent from 1.1 percent. Officials in Brussels warned that downside risks to the region’s outlook remain “prominent.” ---Bloomberg
