Morning Futures Trading:

。U.S. stock futures rallied Frida.  Investors, who have been rattled by the devastating impacts of the coronavirus, were encouraged by fresh measures by policymakers to shore up economies. In the United States, Senate Republicans on Thursday presented a $1 trillion economic stimulus bill. The Federal Reserve continued its swift action with a plan to support money market funds and extend currency swap lines to nine more countries in an attempt to keep dollars flowing to banks around the world. In Europe, news of the European Central Bank’s massive bond-buying program appeared to also cheer investors, who piled money into financial markets, sending stocks in Paris and Frankfurt up more than 3 percent. In London, the FTSE 100 was up nearly 2 percent. Stocks across the Asia-Pacific region also rose on Friday. The Hang Seng in Hong Kong jumped 5 percent, while Seoul’s Kospi gained more than 7 percent. Australia’s ASX 200 finished the day up nearly 1 percent. In Taiwan, stocks closed up 6.4 percent. In China, markets were more muted. Shenzhen rose 1.3 percent while Shanghai gained 1.6 percent.- --New York Times

。After a week of vomit-inducing limit up, limit down market moves, the week is set to end with another rollerocoaster bang, as the notorious gamma-slashing quadruple witching - the expiration of options and futures contacts - coincides with the ongoing market volatility. ---Zero Hedge

。Friday morning COVID-19 statistics:

New York City has 3,615 confirmed coronavirus cases, including an inmate at Rikers Island, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Thursday. The possibility of COVID-19 spreading throughout the densely populated U.S. prison system has been a major concern among public officials. The number has jumped by more than 1,000 cases since Thursday morning when New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said there were  4,152 infections across the state with 2,469 of those concentrated within the five boroughs of New York City. ---CNBC

。As Congressional voices and US oil companies have grown louder in urging President Trump to mount a muscular pushback against the Russians and Saudis flooding the market following their spat early this month that triggered an ongoing oil-price war — which lately witness crude falling to $20 yesterday — the administration has said it plans to get involved at "the appropriate time" and hopes to find a "middle ground". Trump said Thursday at a White House briefing: "They are in a fight on price, on output," and indicated that "At the appropriate time I will get involved." ---ZeroHedge

。As I just reported on @CNBC -- Lawmakers are wary of bailing out Boeing, comparing it to AIG, a company that required government rescue only because of its own risky decisions. Based on current thinking, White House would have to make an extremely compelling case to change minds.---Kyla Tausche,CNBC

。Major U.S. airlines on Thursday doubled down on a request for government cash grants even as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell suggested assistance would be in the form of loans. Airlines have slashed thousands of flights, parking hundreds of airplanes and borrowing money as travel demand has collapsed. They have repeatedly warned that they may cut thousands of employees without significant assistance soon.  McConnell defended plans for the U.S. Congress to pass aid for airlines, saying it was not a bailout but loans that would be repaid. ---Reuters

。In less than two weeks, the amount of distressed debt in the U.S. alone has doubled to a half-trillion dollars as the collapse of oil prices and the fallout from the coronavirus shutters entire industries. Why should we care? Distressed debt is a term used to describe the borrowings of companies that are perceived to be under acute financial pressure and often suggests that there’s considerable risk those borrowers will default on their obligations. As a global recession looms, there’s a good chance that more and more corporations could end up in similarly dire straits. ---Bloomberg

---ZeroHedge
