Morning News And S&P500 Trend

At the influences of strong oil price jump and biggest job losses since 2009, the US stock market initially traded mix but has now resolved to the downside. S&P 500 is going forward in testing the March 23 low. Worry about uncertainty over the weekend, more selling may be coming later in the day.

Latest world and US COVID-19 statistics, source BNO News:

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio says this Sunday is “D-Day” — the day when the city will run out of ventilators and health care workers will really feel the strain of the battle against coronavirus. “We predict by something like Monday or Tuesday, 5,000 people in our ICUs intubated fighting for their lives with Covid cases. 5,000. Then that number will grow. That's a staggering number. Every one of those people will need a ventilator,” de Blasio said to CNN’s John Berman. ---CNN

Just like that the 113 record straight months of employment growth is over with a bang. While today's payrolls report was expected to be not quite as terrible as the recent initial claims suggested, especially since the March survey week took place around March 13 or ahead of the big shutdown and layoff announcements, it ended up being catastrophic nonetheless, with the BLS reporting moments ago that a whopping 701K jobs were lost in March, 7x more than the 100K expected, and just shy of the worst payrolls prints recorded during the financial crisis.---ZeroHedge

Oil prices surged again on Friday on the hope that a production cut deal will soon be reached after OPEC and its allies announced they will meet on Monday, and after Russian producers said they are ready for cuts in a bid to stop the price rout, according to a report from Reuters. U.S. West Texas Intermediate Crude jumped 12% to trade at $28.50 per barrel, while international benchmark Brent rose 15% to trade at $34.44 per barrel. WTI is up 30% for the week, putting it on track for its best week in history. ---CNBC

CHALLENGER JOB CUTS: Job cuts announced by US-based employers surged to 222,288 in March from 56,660, the highest monthly tally since January 2009; challenger noted that the data did not include the hundreds of thousands of workers who were furloughed in March. ---ZeroHedge

---ZeroHedge

---Zero Hedge
